Johnny Hallyday at Cedars-Sinai

By Sama Team | December 15, 2009

Johnny Hallyday is a French singer and actor, he is an icon, a rock legend (known as the "French Elvis" abroad) and one of France's biggest stars. For a week now, every eyes in France are focused on the Cedars-Sinai hospital in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. Johnny Hallyday's hospitalization has gone unnoticed by Americans, and his name may not ring a bell to any of our foreign readers but what's happening there is something we wanted to talk about.   Last month, Hallyday had a back surgery to repair a disc that was damaged, it was performed by Stéphane Delajoux at a clinic that is popular with celebrities. Four days later, the singer was already out of the clinic, on a plane to Los Angeles. But during the travel, he suffered so much he left LAX being pushed in a wheelchair. A few days later, he was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai hospital; another surgery has been performed and he was then placed into a medically-induced coma last week.   Since then, French journalists have been sent to L.A and newspapers and television news try to find out what went wrong with the first surgery, and why Hallyday's condition is still officially unknown. Many voices raise concerning the French doctor who performed the first surgery in France and his competence; some others wonder if the singer will be able to go on his 'Route 66' tour starting in January (doubtful...). But what really baffled us was an interview from Michel Drucker, a famous French TV journalist and a good friend of Hallyday, in which he explains how much Johnny Hallyday suffered for years and how he managed to perform on stage using strong medication.   That's when we made the connection to Michael Jackson. Johnny Hallyday is a great performer with a strong voice and we really hope everything will be fine for him. People talk, whether rightly or wrongly, we now see another side of the singer and what is said is quite surprising. We all knew Johnny Hallyday enjoyed his life and fully lived it, but now we fear his medical situation could be worsened because of his previous bad behaviours. We hope we will soon be able to shed light on what went wrong on the first the surgery and what caused his suffering.   Tiens bon, Johnny, on est avec toi!

I am not a big fan of Johnny but what happened to him is awful….. The surgery he had in France was a disaster…… Doctors in Los Angeles told the family the surgery was a complete butchery.

I hope he will be fine but I don’t think he will be able to be on stage for a while.

I don’t like when people compare Johnny Hallyday to Elvis Presley. Johnny is Johnny and he has nothing to do with Elvis.

As for the surgery, the surgeon already had troubles with previous patients and now with Johnny, I think he can kiss his medical career goodbye.

On t’aime Johnny!!

That’s very nice from the Gazette to let foreign people know about him. Like Karmitto, I’m not a fan of Johnny but I know many people who are. There will be an investigation to know what really happened during the first surgery.

I wish him the best and to his family too.

Goeff, Johnny Hallyday is 66 years old.

Toby: Johnny Hallyday is not an imitator at all but he’s a rock legend in France, like Elvis was in the U.S.

I really hope it’s not a staphylococcus aureus he’s got……. It’s a terrible infection, even more on the back.

If you want to read more about it, I just found an article on the internet: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/6818509/Johnny-Hallyday-out-of-coma.html

He’s out of coma now.

The producer just announced the Tour was canceled. Everyone with tickets will receive a refund.

It’s not official but it seems he really had a staphylococcus aureus :(

If he’s infected with a staphylococcus aureus, it will never be cured……

He will take an antibiotic treatment to cure the infection, but it will be a long term treatment.

First thing Johnny said when he woke up: ‘We are leaving, now!’

He should be more careful about his health and stop treating his body like if he still was 20. He’s 66 and he must rest. Health is more important than a tour

Staphylococcus aureus nearly killed Rosie O’Donnell ten years ago. It’s a very serious infection.
