Up In The Air: not Copenhagen-friendly!

I recently saw the comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman: Up In The Air. I was said it was a dry comedy with George Clooney, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman and Vera Farmiga. So I came for a lot of fun and I left a little disappointed. See, I am really into the environment stuff so I was a bit disturbed when I realized the character played by Clooney, Ryan Bingham, was a businessman on the verge of reaching five million frequent flyer miles. Imagine: one aircraft take-off can burn thousands of pounds of fuel. And the pollution from just one, two-minute 747 takeoff is equal to operating 2.4 million lawnmowers simultaneously (read more facts).

So, seriously, reaching five million frequent flyer miles? No way! There is an UN climate summit in Copenhagen taking place right now! I like Jason Reitman (Thank you for smoking and Juno) and Vera Farmiga is sexy. The overall movie is great, the romance not so much. Now we’re done with the pollution thing, let’s have a look at product placement: it’s pretty blatant here, it’s everywhere! American Airlines and Hilton are always on screen, one way or another. Too much advertising is ruining the film. We are used to product placement in movies, but there was too much in Up In The Air. The film has been polluted by advertising…

The good news is for Reitman and Clooney: Up in the Air leads Golden Globe film contenders with six nominations. I vote for the Sama Gazette Award of the most anti-environmental movie of the year. Fun fact: I took a plane to see the movie and took another one to go back home. I am Green with dust on the shoulders. Anyway. Up in the Air is a bittersweet drama addressing contemporary issues, I liked the strong chemistry between Clooney and Farmiga. It will be out in February in France.

As for George Clooney himself, he is good. But I couldn’t help to say to myself: ‘Is he the same guy coming back from Darfur some years ago?‘. He is. Maybe he should take a plane and go back there, there is still some work to be done out there. Because you know, like Max Dana said on her Blog: “Most of the people I know only discovered the crisis in Darfur in late 2006 early 2007 when George Clooney came back from Sudan“. So true, my girlfriend perfectly illustrates that fact. Now I can’t wait she watches Up in the Air when it will be out in France, and tells me how sexy can be a romance starting in an airport. :P

I’ve seen it too and it’s a good movie. Clooney may win an Oscar for it, we’ll see.

Aviation is responsible for about 3 percent of overall carbon dioxide emissions in the United States. U.S. Federal Aviation Administration expects domestic aircraft emissions to rise 60 percent by 2025, according to the petition. But 2025 will be too late….

Mark and everyone believing it’s already too late, you should do something instead of being pessimistic!

As for Up in the Air, I’m not interested in seeing the movie, sorry guys ;)

From Greenpeace website: The US delegation’s “remarkable tour de farce” In what’s being described as “a truly remarkable tour de farce,” the US has earned first place in the Fossil of the Day award for the third day straight.

I want to see this movie, I really liked Juno!

Moshuo, you are in love :) But sadly for you, G. Clooney has a girlfriend and she’s italian and she’s beautiful. The couple doesn’t look very serious, but the girl (a velina) wants fame so she gets it thanks to Clooney. And he gets a beautiful woman on his arm. Nice agreement ;)

Hey Uncle_Louis, good to read you man :)

So you enjoyed this movie? I guess I will give it a try when he comes out in February.

I didn’t know your girlfriend was so into Clooney. He’s twice her age ;)

Why do you always have to talk about Clooney when one of his movie goes out? I mean sure he’s playing in the movie or he’s the director but he’s not the only one in the movie! The other cast must be fed up to be left aside while Clooney gets all the media spotlights… Don’t you think?

That’s right, G. Clooney should go back to Darfur instead of posing for magazines with his new girlfriend. It’s like he forgot his commitment when he’s in love (this remain to be seen). Too bad.

¡Hola!

You are so unfair with George Juliette. If the media talk about the movie it’s mostly because George is in the movie. It wouldn’t take so much exposure if he wasn’t the main character.

Gino, I think like you, I don’t feel like he’s in love with her, she never smiles, she only looks happy when she meets important people for her career. Like Simcha I don’t think he’s in love

For his trips to Darfur I think he just doesn’t have the time to go there but he will go back, I am sure of that!

Very good title post: Up In The Air: not Copenhagen-friendly!

Aircraft pollution is very important but nobody talks about it or nobody could take a plane anymore. Not good for the economy ;)

But I think Pilar is in love, she knows everything about him :P

I can’t tell for the movie, and I’m not interested by George Clooney’s private life at all but I can tell what he did for Darfur helped a lot to spread the word about the situation. So at least, you can criticize how he lives his life, his girlfriends and whatever he does but you can’t say he’s not committed.

I wish more people like him and Max, and many others were more to help to bring awareness about Darfur, Congo, etc… Even the Sama Gazette is doing a great job talking about conflict minerals. I support people doing something good for a cause. Whether their private life is chaotic or not, that I don’t care!

Clooney should focus on Darfur, charm is deceitful and beauty is passing. He should know that ;)

I am with you Lissa when it comes to raise awareness on a plight somewhere in the world. Clooney did great for Darfur, I don’t say the contrary but his public image has changed. I don’t know him much excepted for his movies and something has changed these years. It’s like he has become shallow, he’s playing so much with the media I sometimes feel is also playing a game off camera.

And see, once again people (me included) talk about more him than about the movie itself…

George Clooney wields a lot of influence but Brad Pitt does a lot more with his Make it Right Foundation. IMO

Clooney is a womanizer, an old one, who cares about him anymore? Young women looking for fame and money, that’s it.

Let’s talk about serious topics, like Christmas gifts! ;)

Plus I am not the huge fan I used to be.

Look, I volunteered in a spanish organization, I changed too but in a good way Jajaja
