Acumen Fund Celebrates 10 Years

"To create a world beyond poverty"

By Sama Team | November 8, 2011

Acumen Fund is a non-profit global venture fund that uses entrepreneurial approaches to solve the problems of global poverty. As part of the 10-Year celebrations this week, they will be broadcasting a segment focused on the history of Acumen Fund. The segment will conclude with an address on the future of Acumen Fund by CEO and Founder, Jacqueline Novogratz.

About Acumen Fund:

Our mission is to create a world beyond poverty by investing in social enterprises, emerging leaders, and breakthrough ideas. Our vision is that one day every human being will have access to the critical goods and services they need – including affordable health, water, housing, energy, agricultural inputs and services – so that they can make decisions and choices for themselves and unleash their full human potential. This is where dignity starts – not just for the poor but for everyone on earth.

We also learn that Acumen Fund was incorporated on April 1, 2001, with seed capital from the Rockefeller Foundation, Cisco Systems Foundation and three individual philanthropists. The entrepreneurs Acumen Fund supports are focused on offering critical services – water, health, housing, and energy – at affordable prices to people earning less than four dollars a day.

Happy birthday Acumen Fund, you're doing a fantastic work on the field!
