Aung San Suu Kyi: candles in Paris tonight

Join us tonight at the Hotel de Ville of Paris!

By Sama Team | October 6, 2009

Tonight, from 9pm to 10pm, Human Rights Watch, Info Birmanie, FIDH, Amnesty International, SOS pour Aung San Suu Kyi and La Ligue des Droits de L’homme call for a meeting at the Hotel de Ville of Paris.

This initiative was launched by Jane Birkin in July, and most of the signers of the initiative will be there: Catherine Deneuve, Michel Piccoli, Charlotte Rampling, Marion Cotillard, Arielle Dombasle, Charles Berling, Vincent Delerme, Marie Christine Barrault

If you're in Paris, and if you want to support Aung San Suu Kyi (read our previous post: Aung San Suu Kyi back to home confinement) get a candle and meet you there. Several members of the Sama Team will be there and Max Dana might (discretly) join us as well.

Juliette and Arnold try to bring your friends, I will come with 2 or 3 friends of mine.

To the Sama Team : will you wear Sama Tshirts like at Artoyz ? And do you know if Max Dana will come for sure ? That would be soooooooo cool to meet on this occasion :P

Aung San Suu Kyi needs all our support from everywhere in the world and I hope it will eventually help her to be released and get her freedom back.

I think this is important not to forget Aung San Suu Kyi and I hope the French government will take measures against the Junta.

The more we are, the more we have the power to change things. Aung San Suu Kyi did a lot on her side, now it’s our turn to help her, now more than ever!

¡Hola!

Yes, this is indeed an important initiative. We had one in Barcelona a while back. We have to fight for Aung San Suu Kyi and for democracy in Burma.

Give my best to Max Dana if you have the chance to see her tonight ;)

¡Adios!

I was there yesterday night, too bad I didn’t read the Sama Gazette before going there.

Sadly all the photographers we in the front rows, and I felt a little lonely with my candle. But it was important to be there, every candle was bringing a little hope and I almost cryed looking at the portrait of Aung San Suu Kyi on the door of the Mairie.

That was a great moment to live….

Sama Reader Juliette

Hi everyone! Yesterday was cold but the people were so warm inside…. Seriously, that was amazing!!! Laurent, too bad we didn’t meet, we were there with Arnold, our friends, JBKaval and like 10 of his friends plus the Masked Sama without his mask, that was great :)

Sadly we didn’t see Max Dana, The Masked Sama told us she would come but ‘anonymously’, in the crowd… We understand we didn’t come exclusively to see her but to support Aung San Suu Kyi, but it would have been great to see Max. At least we saw Catherine Deneuve, Jane Birkin and Marion Cotillard.

A lot of people were there (not enough in my opinion) and I’m sure it will make things move for Aung San Suu Kyi!

Sama Reader Karmitto

Like I said in the other post about Aung San Suu Kyi, nothing will change until the governments decide to change their economic policies. Pilar is right and even Mark is right because companies like Total invest a lot of money in Burma and this money goes directly into the pockets of the Junta and that is a shame.

Candles are great but they’re will never be enough to actually change anything. :(

Even if we don’t do much it’s important to do something………

Sama Reader Arnold

I was there last night and even if we had a great night with our friends, I feel like nobody really cares. We talk about Aung San Suu Kyi only because stars are talking about her in the media but besides that, there is no solution.

But at least we do something, that’s right but yesterday night was deceiving to me…

Aung San Suu Kyi is not the only one to need our help, many people die in prison all around the world with anybody to mention them.

Life is very sad sometimes and so unfair!

Marion Cotillard suddenly supporting Aung San Suu Kyi…. Sometime it’s like these causes are only made for movie stars. When you’re famous enough, bingo, you get a cause.

I’m in a bad mood today, didn’t sleep well.

Yes, Hulksman, sometimes it happens but in any case it helps to raise awareness so it’s good for the cause ;)

Sama Reader Laurent

I agree with Arnold and Juliette, the meeting monday night was a bit of a disappointment because there were not so many people attending the meeting. But it was late and a little cold so maybe this is the reason.

As for the personalities, Catherine Deneuve really looked tired and like she was there by accident, only Jane Birkin seemed to be truly committed. That’s my very own feeling, I may be wrong but apparently I was not the only one to feel this way.

The minutes of silence for Aung San Suu Kyi was one of the most touching moment of the evening. I still think what we did was useful but we need to be more. Maybe next time the Sama Team can organize something like that, with the official support of Max Dana. I’m only suggesting but I think that would be a great event ;)
