Senator Edward Kennedy died at 77

By Sama Team | August 26, 2009

Sen. Edward Kennedy was a towering figure in the Democratic Party, the patriarch of the first family of Democratic politics, one of the most influential and longest-serving senators in U.S. history (one of only six senators to serve more than 40 years). He was the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy and New York Sen. Robert Kennedy.

Ted Kennedy, known as the "Lion of the Senate", was one of Washington's most effective senators. He played major role in civil, voting rights and healthcare reform (which he made his signature cause). He suffered a seizure in May 2008 but he gave his full support to Barack Obama; althought still recovering from his seizure, Kennedy was in Washington in January when Obama assumed office.

No need to tell more.

Ted Kennedy, R.I.P.

Many people think Barack Obama would not have made it to the Presidency without Ted Kennedy and I agree. I was a huge admirer of the Senator.

Ted Kennedy was a great man and he did a lot for the country but the Kopechne case has not been forgotten. Sad story.

Mark, you’re such a conservative!! Healthcare is important for everyone. I’m french and everyone should benefit of healthcare.

You’re being selfish, think of the needy people, the poor that can’t pay for it and die……..

Nope, I think health care is a privilege that most Americans pay for. It’s not something you share, it’s something you deserve (or not), by working hard.

I’m Evil, I know, I’m a bad bad person

Are you serious Mark? I agree with Juliette’s statement wholeheartedly. The rich have to pay for the poor, because at some point, the rich are rich because the poor work for them. I don’t say it’s always like that but see the economy, rich people are getting more and more money and the poor, less and less. And all the poor are not poor because they want to be poor or deserve to be poor. There are lazy people but think about the ones who work hard and don’t earn enough money to pay for healthcare….

That’s a very strange way to think Mark, with all due respect, I don’t get it.

Nice argumentation Moshuo. But you should also mention our French healthcare (sécurité sociale) cost us a lot, we are in high debt. So maybe Obama should find another way to finance healthcare in the US or it will end like in France……… :?

Senator Kennedy spent his career working for the less fortunate. But like his brothers before him, Ted Kennedy was no stranger to controversy.

You made your point Moshuo and you got followers. Good for you!

Liberals’ promise of healthcare utopia doesn’t fool Americans. It will never going to happen anytime soon.

Juliette, Akvani, Karmitto and the others, thanks for your support! But me and Mark will never agree about the importance of healthcare.

My comment is on the front page, I’m a star, I won over Mark! ;)
