Dennis Hopper dies at age 74

By Sama Team | May 31, 2010

Actor, director and artist Dennis Hopper died Saturday at his home in the Los Angeles beach community of Venice, surrounded by family and friends, after cancer battle. Many will remember him in 'Rebel Without a Cause', 'Easy Rider', 'Apocalypse Now', 'Blue Velvet' and 'Hoosiers'. But Hopper was not only an actor and a director, he most of all was an artist.

In 2008, Dennis Hopper was be the subject of an exhibition: "Dennis Hopper & the New Hollywood" at the Cinematheque Francaise in Paris (which was also shown at Melbourne's ACMI). Visitors had the opportunity to see a selection of Hopper's movies, photos, video extracts, archives, billboards and private art collection (Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Julian Schnabel...).

Dennis Hopper was a true artist, and he was not a saint and you can read many articles about Hopper's turbulent life and career. If you don't know much about Dennis Hopper, check out Roger Ebert obituary: Dennis Hopper: In memory which gives interesting details about the actor's life and career, and watch Hopper's movies, starting with 'Easy Rider' and 'Blue Velvet'.

Dennis Hopper had indeed a turbulent life and career but the least we can say is that he lived an eventful life. My favorite movie with him is definitely Blue Velvet. He was special in Hollowood and unique. Thanks for everything he has offered us.

I am saddened by Dennis Hopper death although I wasn’t a big fan. I didn’t even know he was a painter but I discover him now. Maybe too late.
