The Enough Moment by John Prendergast and Don Cheadle

By Sama Team | September 7, 2010

The Enough Moment is on sale. Human rights activist John Prendergast and Oscar-nominated actor Don Cheadle bring us an empowering and hopeful new book, as they reveal the steps being taken by engaged citizens—"Upstanders"—famous and unknown, here and abroad, to combat genocide, rape, and child soldierdom in Africa, and show how you can be a part of the movement.

The Enough Moment, by John Prendergast with Don Cheadle, is on sale now, and you can order your copy here. We already got the book by the way of Max Dana who already read it and she will write about it. So you will know more about the book in the coming days or weeks. We support the Enough Project and its campaigns (conflict minerals, Raise Hope for Congo...) for a long time, so we were eager to read The Enough Moment.

If you live in Los Angeles, a free ticketed event open to the public presented by the Enough Project, Facing History and Ourselves, and the Allstate Foundation will take place on September 10, 2010 (322 South Lucas Avenue 90017, Los Angeles, CA). RSVP is required, click here for more information.

In their new book, The Enough Moment, John Prendergast and Don Cheadle present the stories of celebrities, activists and survivors who have dedicated their lives to ending genocide and other human rights crimes in Africa. It all begins with an “Enough Moment”—an experience in your life when you realize you have to stand up, speak out, and organize with others on vital human rights issues. The Enough Project is creating an interactive wall featuring many stories from activists. You can share you Enough Moment on this page.

Here’s an excerpt:

At this juncture of human history, and because of the distortion and delay in Africa’s own historical trajectory cre- ated by the European colonial era, it turns out that the global epicenter of this kind of targeted violence is currently play- ing itself out on African soil, with weapons that come largely from America, Europe, and Asia…

I think it is a very good thing to make people realize that there is an enough moment, a moment when you are enough. As a doctor, I always wanted to save lives while some of my friends only wanted to make money. I don’t think I had an enough moment but I know some of my friends had one. This is the moment when you realize you can make a better word by helping the others.

I’m sure The Enough Moment is a great book, and I’m curious to know what Max Dana thinks about it!

I also feel powerless annaline but when you see what some people are capable of, then you know you can’t complain. If The Enough Moment is available in French I will buy it. Of course, Max’s words about it will be very helpful because she knows a lot about Africa, commitment and the causes she supports. I will tell you when I read it! :)
