A Super Mario Game in a Box!

A few days ago our friends @Artoyz tweeted about a Super Mario game in a box. It is a video game but it isn’t… On the video page, the creators explain: ‘Using a Teagueduino and a few inputs and outputs, we put together a physical side-scrolling video game. To control it, there’s a knob on the side. As time advances the game gets faster and faster’. Teagueduino is an open source hardware platform that makes Arduino a whole lot ...

Hundreds of people for Troy Davis in Paris

We decided to dedicate this C’est la vie in France weekly post to Troy Davis. As you may already know if you read the Sama Gazette, and with the strong support of French artist Max Dana, we actively work to bring attention to his case. In a few words: ‘Troy Davis was sentenced to death in 1991 for the murder of police officer Mark Allen MacPhail in Savannah, Georgia in 1989. No physical evidence directly links Davis to the murder – no ...

Troy Davis to be executed tomorrow!

We know Troy Davis story for a long time, and last week we selected his story for our Weekly Friday Digest. For a long time indeed we have been shocked by the treatment made of his case: he was sentenced to death but he might be innocent. Killing a man who could be innocent is something horrible, and this is what is scheduled to happen tomorrow. Max Dana wrote a blog about the situation and we think she found the right words about it. Also, Amnesty ...

Art in Senegal: Sculptor Ousmane Sow

Ousmane Sow is an internationally acclaimed Senegalese sculptor. The sculptor extraordinaire as many call him, had been sculpting since childhood and we are enthralled with his work. Whether it is a Masai warrior with spear and shield, wrestlers coupled body to body (see illustration below) or the Toussaint figure created in 1989 in Dakar (acquired by Smithsonian in 2009 and illustrating this post, left), Sow knows how to tell a story. Each sculpture ...
