Protestors and government supporters clash in Yemen
Dozens of activists calling for the ouster of Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh clashed on Saturday with the regime’s supporters in Sanaa, an AFP journalist reported. Plainclothes police also attacked the demonstrators who marched to the Egyptian embassy in Sanaa chanting “Ali, leave leave” and “Tunisia left, Egypt after it and Yemen in the coming future.” The chants were referring to the ouster of veteran Tunisian strongman…

For Activists, Facebook Is A Reluctant Platform
Whether Facebook likes it or not, it is now being used as a platform for activism, as the recent uprising in Egypt has shown. But that doesn’t mean that Facebook is necessarily happy about it. “The Washington Post” has a piece looking at how Facebook is treading carefully: “But Facebook, which celebrates its seventh birthday Friday and has more than a half-billion users worldwide, is not eagerly embracing its role as the…

Europeans Struggle for Consistency on Egypt
European leaders struggled on Friday to find a consistent message over the crisis in Egypt as Britain issued a tough warning against state-sponsored violence there, while Italy suggested that President Hosni Mubarak could manage a transition to democracy. Comments emerging from a summit meeting of European Union leaders reflected the dilemma confronted by nations, hesitating between a desire to promote democracy in…
