Champs Elysées Film Festival Starts Today!

One of our favorite film festival, the Champs-Élysées Film Festival is back for a 9th edition in 2020! Created by renowned French producer and distributor Sophie Dulac, it showcases French and American independent movies including feature and short films premieres and competitions, master classes… This year’s guests of honor are directors Stephen Frears and Edgar Wright.

The festival should have been held from June 16-23 throughout theaters on the most beautiful avenue of the world, but due to the current situation with COVID-19, this year’s edition is online and free. Organizers of the film festival explained they didn’t want to cancel the event and deprive their audience from the best of French and American independent cinema:

« Our ambition today is to be able to present to the audience French and American independent cinema’s new talents who need to be supported more than ever. In solidarity with everyone and for the first time since its creation, the festival will be available for free, in the French territory, through our official website from June 9 to 16. You will discover French premieres of feature lengths and short films that will be submitted to the vote of the audience, the Jurys, as well as many wonderful surprises ! »
Sophie Dulac, President and Founder of Champs-Élysées Film Festival

Today, the online film festival is kicking off 8 days of films and competitions, and the opening night will start with a musical act by Barbara Carlotti followed by the premiere of Jumbo by Zoé Wittock starring Noémie Merlant and Emmanuelle Bercot. Live master classes will be held on Wednesday with Stephen Frears (The Hit, Dangerous Liaisons, State of The Union) and on Saturday with Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Last Night in SoHo).

More musical performances will be presented featuring Clara Ysé, P.r2b, TheColorGrey, Lucie Antunes, DJ Set live by Barbara Butch and playlists from Yukseket and Rebeka Warrior. Not to mention the feature and short film competitions (Jury Awards, Audience Awards, Critics Awards,…). You can visit this page for more information.

The programming is terrific, we are very excited about this new edition even though it will be fully online. We’re sure albeit the experience will be different this year, it will be even stronger. The Champs-Élysées Film Festival is a festival not to be missed!
