For this new ‘Art in…’ post, we go to Mongolia. Sculptor Amgalan Tsevegmid was born in 1952 in Ulan-Bator, Mongolia. He has completed majoring in painting in 1971 from the State college of Music and Dance in Mongolia. In 1977 he has graduated from the I.E. Repin Institute of Architecture, Sculpture, and Paintings at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Sculptures by Amgalan Tsevegmid are standing in the squares in a number of Mongolian cities, including Ulan-Bator (the capital of Mongolia), China and Sydney, Australia. They are displayed in the National Gallery in Ulan-Bator, in museums in Hungary, Germany and have been shown in numerous exhibitions worldwide.
Many of his sculptures are in private collections in countries around the world, including those of the families of the former American Ambassador to Mongolia Ms. Pamela J. Slutz and Turkish Ambassador to Mongolia Mr. Varol Ozkocak.
